Once considered extinct for 60 years because of habitat cleared to plantations of tea, a kind of unique primate recovered and managed to be photographed. Earlier primate species Horton Plains Loris (Loris tardigradus nycticeboides) this year had been reported seen in 2002, but there is no evidence that the accompanying photo.

For more than 1000 research was conducted in 120 nights a wooded area in Sri Lanka by biologists in collaboration with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). This search eventually found Loris in six regions, and the investigators arrested three live specimens to be studied

The main reason that makes this animal is the disappearance of their habitat disappears. "Lots of open land and forests that had covered the southwest of Sri Lanka has been converted into tea gardens," says Dr. Craig Turner of the ZSL.

Currently estimated to number 100 individuals living Loris thus making it one of the five most endangered animal populations. However, because little is actually known about Loris, then the number could be under 60 tail, which means it will make it as the most endangered species.

Loris first discovered scientifically in 1937. But then thought to be extinct because there are no reports about it. This slow-moving animals approximately 20 cm in length and weighs approximately 310 grams. Compared with lowland Loris, Loris Horton Plains has shorter legs and longer hair.
